As our third quarter wraps up for the 2023-2024 school year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to our parents, community members, teachers, and students who have supported the strive for excellence at Newberry High School. As a school, we firmly believe that our students are well-rounded, high-achieving, determined young leaders. We understand that we are only as good as our foundation allows us to be, and we have a solid one due to the efforts of all of our stakeholders.
In this Bulldog Monthly, I will be discussing the climate survey that is distributed to
parents/guardians, teachers, and students each year. The NHS Student Government Association is working hard to ensure that all NHS students understand what this survey is and how it impacts our school. Student voice is a vital part of a school’s success, and we encourage our students to be leaders in their own educational journey. On the next page, you will find past data on the climate survey. NHS improved in almost all categories from the 21-22 school year to the 22-23 school year. We are striving to continue this improvement! The survey for the 23-24 school year will be distributed in the upcoming weeks. We ask that you please take the time to complete it, and we ask that you discuss its importance with your NHS student.
This semester, we are continuing to offer our free tutoring in our library. Tutoring is four days each week from 3:30 to 4:30. Students can also recover seat time during this hour. The schedule is as follows:
Monday: Science
Tuesday: English
Wednesday: Seat Time only in the Cafeteria
Thursday: Math
Friday: Social Studies

Our College Tour for Juniors is scheduled for March 26th! This is a great opportunity for students to tour four colleges in the Upstate. We do plan on having more college tours in the future in which we will tour other schools across South Carolina.

Eight delegates attended the South Carolina Association of Student Councils convention at Spring Valley High School.
We maintained our distinction as a Gold Honor Council. This award is given based on the number of points earned through communication, parliamentary procedures, and projects over the year between each convention.
Azariah Stephens was inducted into the Terry McCoy Leadership Hall of Fame. Azariah was voted on by the council as the strongest leadership representative of the senior class for her communication, hard work, and dedication to the betterment of the council and our school.
Each council is allowed to submit three projects in three different priority categories. We were awarded the following:
second place in Recognition for the Hispanic Heritage Celebration. second place in School Pride for last spring's Unity Week, celebrating inclusion at NHS. first place in School Spirit for this year's We Love the Bulldogs Spirit Week.
